Brown + Red
Ok. We’ve seen the trend everywhere, and with the holidays quickly approaching, the brown and red pairings couldn’t come at a better time. I have always been a fan of red - it’s definitely a power color - and it pairs so well with another autumn favorite: brown. We’re familiar with black and red or white and red pairings, but brown is unexpected, modern and an elevated way to rework our reds for this season.
Last month, I took a sparkly evening-ready skirt and pushed it into daytime with an oversized blazer and matching ribbed tank. I tend to dress in juxtapositions - taking pieces that may classify as “formal” and styling them in a way that makes them more everyday. It’s like the fine dinnerware or glassware that we stow away and bring out only for special occasions. Why can’t we use it everyday? After all, each day is a special occasion, so why not treat it as such?
So here is my two-part challenge to you. First, pull out the unworn “formal” piece and style it with something you’d wear everyday. You’re regular day deserves recognition and celebration just as much as those special occasions. Second, the next time you pull something red out of your closet, try pairing it with a brown. You’re likely to get a lot of compliments!
